Coming Along

Redjeb is coming along.  We have even taken a little walk, yesterday and today, outside and up to Third Ave, stopping frequently to rest.  And we sat in the sun in the little "cement park" that belongs to our building.  But he continues to get tired rather quickly, so we have been holding off on visitors for the time being.  But it is getting closer when I think he'll be up to some visits.  He is getting stronger each day, though some days he's more energetic than on others.

We were woken up early this morning by Juanita again.  This time though it was a surprise as we weren't expecting her till Wed.  Whatever... She took his blood and off she went.  I may have given the impression that she is all bubbly and smiley and all that  (when I said she was upbeat).  But Juanita is very focused on her mission.  She is very serious.  Comes in.  Leaves her walker by the door.  Goes straight to the chair at the table where Redjeb sits.  Gets her needle ready.  She has now delegated a job to me.  I prepare the hot wash cloth to sit on Redjeb's hand, so it is easier for her to get his blood.  Nurse Peggy in action.

She takes the blood, tidies up her paraphernalia, and is gone in a flash.  No time for small talk.  She's off to work.  But she is a positive presence nonetheless.

My brother, with his wife Alicia, drove down again from Boston yesterday.  They had come for her daughter's induction into the NY Bar today.  So they visited with us and gave us a blood pressure monitor.  So we are getting more like a hospital here.  Is scary to take one's blood pressure.  Doesn't always give you the news that you want.

I told my brother he is like the Lone Ranger.  He arrives when there is a crisis, takes care of it, and disappears in a cloud of dust.  Who was that masked man??

I guess Juanita is a little like the Lone Ranger too.

Tomorrow is Redjeb's first real outing.  A visit downtown, 34th St. to the cardiologist.  A week ago he couldn't even make it down the elevator.  Now we will be able to get out and go down there.  Hope all goes well.  It's supposed to rain and hail....Oh, boy...
