We were now all the way downtown, and when standing on First Ave looking for a cab back home, Redjeb noticed a Starbucks and a fancy deli across the avenue. So there we went, to Bruno's deli, where we sat on high chairs at a counter looking through the large glass window onto the street. This was a treat for Redjeb whose vista for the past couple weeks has mostly been interior walls. As he said, here at the deli he was "looking at life", such as it was: cars, buses, people walking by, delivery men from Bruno's putting catered food into cabs to go to some office luncheon meet.
We had coffee and a croissant and got the paper. This could be conceived of as Redjeb's first real outing to a cafe since Surgery Day two weeks ago.
Now we are back home and he--still in his coat and hat--is asleep on the arm chair with the NY Times in his lap. Takes a lot out of him to make these excursions.
