...Without Assistance

Here is Redjeb "reading without assistance."
You wouldn't know he just had open heart surgery four days ago.

Also, when I left the hospital this evening he asked me to get from his satchel one of the books that I mistakenly brought for him the other day--we won't dwell on that. I guess I was just clairvoyant.

Redjeb still gets very tired, and after trying to read the paper for just a few minutes he put it down and fell asleep.  But he does get up on his own and can walk short distances.  Each day it is amazing how he progresses.

I thought Redjeb was on the cardiac Step Up floor, but today realized that he is on the Step Down floor. Now how does that work?  I thought when you did well you took a step up in the world.   But in hospital lingo you take a step down.  Hum...does that say something about our health care system?

Some more good news: they have unplugged him from most of the gadgets around the bed, except for a couple attachments that he can undo when he wants to move around.  I think this is all amazing.  From what I've read it will take about 3 months for him to be back to pretty normal.   But at the rate he's going, I can't imagine what more changes will take place in these upcoming 90 days.  Maybe he'll be able to fly.

He seems quite comfortable given what he's been through.  They've stopped the pain meds, but I guess they are still in his body.  He has not complained about pain at all.  However, he's getting a bit tired of just sitting on the bed or in the chair, so that must mean he's getting better.

For those of you who ask or wonder:
We don't know when he will be coming home, but I suspect in the next few days.
I'm not sure that he'll be up to visitors at first.
I'll let you know when he's up to calls or company, as things develop.

Thanks so much for your support.

Hi Peggy,
Redjeb looks wonderful! It was great to see him sitting up in bed and reading the newspaper.
It is amazing how quickly he is progressing. I am convinced that Redjeb is invincible.
Since Redjeb must be a delightful patient (except for the food thing - although I can easily relate)he must be receiving excellent attention from the house staff?
I know that I have said this before but it bears repeating - this blog is outstanding. I really appreciate being kept up to date re Redjeb, especially being so far away.
Take good care and give my love to your handsome guy!
