Here we are finally at The Muffin Man, one of our local hangouts. (As you can see it is now called Effy's, but we diehards insist on calling it by its old name. And by the way that is not Redjeb sitting on the outside. He's being cozy inside, as you can see on the other photo.)
As many of you know, Redjeb has carried his European habits with him to the New World and loves to go to a cafe in the morning to have his coffee and read the paper.
For his exercise, most of the time we just walk in the hallways of our building to get his strength and stamina up. The last few days we have ventured outside, but have stayed near our building, where he can stop and sit down if he needs to.
But today when we went outside, I could see him eyeing The Muffin Man across Third Avenue. Getting there had been one of our "long-term" goals, but I knew he had it in his mind to go over there sooner than later, particularly after we stopped in that cafe yesterday near his doctor's office. And there is no stopping Redjeb when he makes up his mind.
So over we went--a bit further than we'd been walking, but he made it--though I do think we were pushing the limits a bit today.
You can see how happy he is to be out and about. You'd never know that he just had major surgery a couple weeks ago.
We stayed about a half hour, and then he got quite tired, so we made our way back to the apartment. But it was a good outing. And lucky we went today, as I hear snow is on its way tomorrow.
P.S. By the way, if any of you want to drop by, give a call on my cell: 212-673-1027. I'm sure he'd love to see you, but he does tire easily so don't take it personally.
